En route to Jackson, we had one night and one night only in Memphis, Tennessee–so we had to make it a good one. After arriving at our “heartbreak hotel” (oops, I made reservations at the wrong hotel!), we made a beeline for Graceland! We were ready to get our Elvis groove on and cruise the mansion, but we only made it as far as the gift shop. It seems everyone wants to see The King on this busy Memorial Day Weekend.

Instead, we headed to Beale Street–a far better choice, in my opinion. We dedicated the evening to blues and BBQ. The street echoed of music coming from all directions. Nearly every restaurant had a live act singing the blues in the outdoor garden. It was hard to choose where to go!

We sampled a number of different venues on the block. It was a wonderful spot to spend our day off.
