is it kansas or is it missouri?
Never have I seen a city so spread out like Kansas City. On our first night in town we ventured a good 20 minutes away for dinner to an area that was still considered “Kansas City.” Legend has it that the city hit its development boom in a time when acres were endless… I guess they thought that if you don’t use ‘em you lose ‘em. The city literally extends into two states!
Aside from the geography we were quite pleased by the few days we were here. Our trailer was set up in the Power and Lights district where there were free concerts, great restaurants and people buzzing around. Thank you to all the amazing people who came out to record! We had such an exciting group of people record from Kansas City. And a special thanks to Lindsay of Fresher than Fresh Snow Cones who brought us popsicles to beat the heat!
Here are some of the great Kansas City people who courageously shared their aha moments with us:
Meet Ryan
I used to be hugely overweight. My aha moment came when I went to an amusement park with a friend and was told that I couldn’t ride any of the rides because I was too fat. That moment was so humilating for me that I knew I needed a lifestlye change. I started running and eating healthy and feel great.
Meet Dayle:
I am a graphic designer by day and a crafter all my life. My aha moment really was after a party when a friend commented on an accessory I had made and was wearing, and she asked where she could buy one. From that point I started making fashion accessories for others as well as myself. I officially started Handmade by Sodapop in April of 2007 after moving to Kansas City.
Meet Michael:
Cooking is my passion. My aha moment came when I was eight and went out to eat and got to pick out the lobster I would eat. In that moment realized that I wanted to be with the guys in the kitchen and I haven’t really gone back. Since then I’ve been trained around the world and recently opened up the Farmhouse Restaurant in Kansas City, an all organic, locally sourced restaurant.
Thanks again to all the great Kansas City folks who came out to record and we are looking forward to our time in Wichita starting Monday!
