tulsa wrap-up
It’s hard to believe that we left Tulsa already! Between the great food and arts that this town has to offer, we were lucky to meet some incredible people with great stories. These are a few of the unique and beautiful aha moments that we heard in Tulsa:
Meet Andy Thomas:
One night I was stewing about a very minor incident at work when I again considered the possibility of quitting and pursuing a life as a painter/artist (as I had often done). The very thought made my heart pound in fear and I truly pondered what was so terrifying. In the end, that night, with my wife asleep, I wrote my resignation. As I went to bed in the wee hours I asked my wife to type it out. I handed in my resignation that morning.
Meet Anitra Lavanhar:
My daughter passed away about four years ago. I wanted to preserve her memory and carry on her legacy, so I helped create the Children’s Museum of Tulsa. I never expected that I could get to this point, but here I am and I feel proud to be doing what I am doing for my daughter!
We also met Judi Grove. She started Breast Impressions, a non-profit that offers breast-casting kits to women who have been recently diagnosed with breast cancer and would like to make a “memory” prior to breast surgery. Since their inception, over 180 breast casting kits have been sent free of charge to women across the world. Many of these casts get turned into art, as the ones shown here. Kait and I decided to model the art–we were so impressed by Judi’s creativity in her contribution to fight breast cancer.
Tulsa has been an awesome stop and I am sad that we left. Thankfully, Tornado Alley did not live up to its name and we escaped without bad weather. Now onto Austin!
